SUMMARY:Double Bill: Cosmophobia and Tremors
DESCRIPTION:Cosmophobia by Alessandra Azeviche \nThis work-in-progress is an attempt to challenge the institutional ignorance sustaining both ecological ruin and our existential dread of the cosmos. Asking “is fear a primal instinct or a symptom of modern alienation?”\, the piece draws on Mestre Nêgo Bispo’s revolutionary theories to interrogate how losing our ancestral and ecological connections fuels collective anxiety by bridging counter-colonial thought and environmental psychology. \nTremors is a call to embrace our vulnerability at different stages of our lives and re-imagine the space of dance performance. Our response to the horizontal acceleration of time that comes with age is to intensify our attention\, to enable a gentle internal transformation that extends to audiences. Tremors imagines dance as a communal\, attentive practice: redemption through presence and listening. Harmonics emerging from the chaos of dynamic\, opposing forces\, and our singular ability to blend fury and tenderness in a single gesture. \nAlexandre Iseli\, Scientist\, dancer\, choreographer\, and director of Tipperary Dance; dancer and choreographer Murielle Elizéon based in the United States; Thomas Belhom\, French composer & musician; Sarah Marguier\, a multi-disciplinary French artist working across photography\, movement-based art and design for performing arts. \n(20 mins (followed by short interval) + 45 mins)\nIn partnership with Tipperary Dance and Culture Mill.\n\nBuy Tickets\nPurchase tickets from Citizen Ticket.

SUMMARY:Community Dye Vat
DESCRIPTION:Discover the process of dyeing cloth blue\, using the woad plant\, Isatis tinctoria. \nWoad has a rich history of use\, originating from South Eastern Russia and as a naturalised plant to Ireland. \nJoin artists Hollie Kearns and Annie Hogg and their Community Dye Vat\, by bringing along a clean piece of undyed cloth – a napkin\, hankie\, or small t-shirt. It must be 100% natural materials such as cotton\, linen\, bamboo or silk. \nThe method of extracting its colour is a mystical process\, offering the opportunity to delve into the science behind the process. We will be incorporating the Japanese art of Shibori as a further way to play with dye range in our Community Dye. \nThis project is supported by the Integration Fund.

SUMMARY:Mayumi Nakabayashi Mandala Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The workshop is about connection – an opportunity to confirm our connection with the land\, nature\, communities and ourselves. Mandala means ‘circle’ in Sanskrit language. \nAs we co-create a circular geometry using natural materials\, the process gently reminds us of essential values for human beings (collaboration\, unity in diversity and sense of belonging) in a tangible and grounded manner. Participants will learn how to create with natural materials\, how to work with perspectives and the sustainable ways to forage for natural materials. \nThese projects are supported by the Integration Fund.

SUMMARY:Muireann Bradley Concert
DESCRIPTION:Muireann Bradley is a once-in-a-generation talent; aged just nineteen\, the Irish guitarist and singer has captivated audiences worldwide with her interpretations of classic blues songs. Raised in County Donegal\, she began playing guitar aged nine\, inspired by her blues-loving father. Despite detours into competitive Jiu-Jitsu\, music remained her true calling. \nMuireann’s debut album I Kept These Old Blues\, recorded between lockdowns during Covid when she was able to get into a studio (starting from when she was still just 14 years old)\, has become a coveted collector’s item\, with the first pressing of the record selling out everywhere. Featuring masterful covers of Blind Blake\, Rev Gary Davis\, and Mississippi John Hurt\, the album reveals a rare depth of understanding and musicality. \nEqually drawn to the stories behind the songs\, Bradley channels the spirit of blues pioneers; her reverence for artists like Elizabeth Cotten and Memphis Minnie informs both her playing and her storytelling\, earning her recognition from industry legends – including Jools Holland who invited her to perform on the Hootenanny. A natural performer with astonishing skill\, Muireann Bradley is not just reviving the blues – she’s helping to shape its future. \nSupport Act \nRuairí de Leastar is a talented musician known for his songs of hope and wisdom. He has been honing his craft for the past fifteen years and has shared the stage with many successful acts\, including Duke Special\, Lisa Hannigan\, Jerry Fish\, Jack L\, and Foy Vance. \n\nBuy Tickets\nPurchase tickets from Citizen Ticket.

SUMMARY:Barbarian
DESCRIPTION:Barbarian is a new theatre/movement work from Bob Kelly\, Diarmuid Armstrong and Hannah Rogerson. \nLoosely inspired by John McGahern’s memoirs\, it follows two children raised in a Garda barracks by their overbearing father – now grown into guards themselves\, they return to relive\, remember and grieve. Shifting fluidly between past and present\, adult and child\, Barbarian blends physical theatre and dance to excavate the inherited wounds of power\, authority and masculinity. \nDeveloped through Cairde Sligo Arts Festival and The Hawk’s Well Theatre\, the piece has drawn packed\, emotionally-engaged audiences at both work-in-progress showings. \n\nBuy Tickets\nPurchase tickets from Citizen Ticket.

SUMMARY:The Horse of Jenin by Alaa Shehada
DESCRIPTION:The Horse of Jenin\, written and performed by Palestinian actor and comedian Alaa Shehada\, tells a universal story. It is about a boy growing up in Jenin\, but like every child in the world\, he most wants to play and have fun. It is a story about the resilience that imagination brings. \nIn April 2002\, a major invasion took place in Jenin. In the aftermath\, a German artist came over for an art workshop. After four weeks\, with the help of 15 Palestinians\, he unveiled the result. He had built a horse as tall as 5 metres out of metal fragments\, debris from the bombing. They rode the horse through the city and everyone was proud of it\, people felt lifted by it. \nThe horse is an Arabic symbol of freedom\, but this horse was also a symbol of peaceful resistance. It was a symbol of resilience. Last November\, an Israeli bulldozer entered the camp and the horse was removed. \nIn this solo\, Alaa wonders: what happened to the horse? Was it arrested? Did it go to court? Was he able to defend himself? Did they put him in jail? Was the horse interrogated? And did it then tell about the day Alaa tried to ride the horse with his best friend Ahmed? \nWith this solo\, Alaa builds a new horse\, constructed from the fragments of his memories supplemented with a huge dose of humour and imagination. A theatrical symbol of resistance and imagination. The performance is an ode to the power of imagination and the value of playing freely. \nPresented in association with Cairde Sligo Arts Festival\, Dublin Theatre Festival and Earagail Arts Festival. \n\nBuy Tickets\nPurchase tickets from Citizen Ticket.
