The Doll’s Hospital – A Rehearsed Reading of A New Play by Eve O’Mahony
The Doll’s Hospital by Tipperary playwright Eve O’Mahony is a new Irish play which invites audiences into the world of two sisters Bunty and Nancy. By day the sisters run a doll’s hospital for local children in a dilapidated pub where the door has been closed to customers since their father’s death.
Exploring the themes of colonialism, greed, isolation and the stigma of mental health, stunted sexual development and the challenges of overcoming unresolved childhood trauma in adult life, The Doll’s Hospital is a tragicomedy, which sees the sisters emerge from victimhood to maturity.
What will happen to the sisters? Will they be allowed to stay together or will they be kept apart? Will the community that victimised them ever come to terms with their actions that caused them to harm these two innocent creatures? Or will it be a dark secret that’s never talked about?
