Community Dye Vat

Discover the process of dyeing cloth blue, using the woad plant, Isatis tinctoria.

Woad has a rich history of use, originating from South Eastern Russia and as a naturalised plant to Ireland.

Join artists Hollie Kearns and Annie Hogg and their Community Dye Vat, by bringing along a clean piece of undyed cloth – a napkin, hankie, or small t-shirt. It must be 100% natural materials such as cotton, linen, bamboo or silk.

The method of extracting its colour is a mystical process, offering the opportunity to delve into the science behind the process. We will be incorporating the Japanese art of Shibori as a further way to play with dye range in our Community Dye.

This project is supported by the Integration Fund.
